Week #33

Check-Up
Last week was my 32-week checkup. A short and sweet appointment with some good news. Not only had I passed the 3hr glucose screening test but the thyroid screening from my 28-week appt came back all normal across the board finally so I didn't have to get blood drawn again. Hooray!
Everything else checked out well. My heart rate is perfect, and belly is measuring normal (although it certainly feels like I'm way larger than average!). And lastly, Minion's heart rate clocked in the 120's. That's one of the differences from the girls, they both had heart rates right around 140.

Getting to Go Time
Being the 3rd time, we know how long 40 weeks really is. So we knew not to get too crazy planning and preparing too early on. But now that we've got 7 weeks left, it's "go time." We are nearly settled on names - we have the boy name set but  are still going back and forth between 3 girl names.
We're gradually clearing out the sitting area of our bedroom to begin setting up the Minion nursery. We'll wait until after the holidays to move the girls into the same room, but we've been browsing online for loft beds for the girls.
In another few weeks, or whenever the nesting instinct kicks in, we'll begin hauling up all the baby equipment and cleaning/setting it up. And then of course, my favorite part, unpacking the baby clothes into the drawers.

We have a very busy October ahead of us so I don't think we'll experience the long drawn out waiting like we did for Addison (when I was unemployed) or Eden (when it was boring time of year - late Feb/early March). Before we know it we'll have a little Minion!

Week #30

Needles!
For those of you who know me well, you know that needles are one of my phobias. Shots I can tolerate, but having blood drawn is a nightmare for me. I often get lightheaded, clammy and just generally can't stop thinking about it afterwards.
Well, this pregnancy has certainly made me confront this phobia time and time again. All pregnancies involve a lot of blood work at the start, but for me in this pregnancy it has been excessive.
Starting in Week 14, I had high TPH levels in my thyroid, and while the rest of the screening came out fine, the doctors have wanted to continue monitoring it. So that has meant a blood test at nearly every check-up thus far.
Then, of course there's the 28 week glucose screening which involved a finger prick, along with a thyroid blood test, so that was no fun - but it was nothing compared to what happened next... I failed the glucose screening!
What that meant is a week later I had to go in for a 3hr test, involving blood being drawn once an hour for 3hrs, so 3 blood draws total. This was all on an empty stomach of course. I survived and, more importantly, passed the test but it was certainly a morning I won't forget!

Kicks and Pokes
I am really feeling Minion moving around these days. S/he wakes me up around 4:30am every morning with a whole lotta kicking and jabbing and wiggling. Baby Minion is active when I lay down for the night too and does NOT like it when I lay on my side in the fetal position to sleep. Apparently I am cramping his/her style!
While meat/burgers is still my craving, whenever I have something sweet it really wakes Minion up and s/he dances around all over the place in there!
Tim, Addison and Eden have all felt and seen Minion's kicks. Although I'm sure Eden doesn't really understand what's going on in there. But she does know that my belly is where Baby Minion is! And Minion often kicks her when she sits on my lap at bedtime to read stories.

The due date is starting to feel closer now. I am preparing for my maternity leave at work with hopefully bringing in a temp to train before I go out. And we're slowly clearing space for the "nursery" in the sitting area of our bedroom. We have a busy fall coming up so that will be good to keep us distracted as we wait!
